Artificial intelligence is transforming cybersecurity, reshaping both cyberattacks and cyber defense. From AI-generated phishing emails and deepfakes to sophisticated malware, AI tools are making it easier for cybercriminals to access sensitive data. However, cyber defense is what has captured the attention of Robert Perdisci, the Patty and D.R. Grimes Distinguished Professor of Computer Science. In addition to his teaching and research, Perdisci also directs the UGA Institute for Cybersecurity and Privacy. His current focus is in part on web browsers, which have overtaken email as the primary target for attacks. Integrating an AI model directly into the browser makes it possible to operate at the scale and speed required to analyze website data and determine whether a site is a scam.
